I saw Honey Bee Sweet using ghee rather of shortening (final year i used shortening) and her flaky mooncake appear so lovely..So this time i changed from shortening to ghee, and i am happy with the mooncake look this time. Mooncake is a Chinese bakery item traditionally eaten through the Mid-Autumn Festival / Zhongqiu Festival. A mooncake is traditionally a pastry (shaped a bit like a hockey puck) that is filled with lotus seed paste and optionally 1 (or a lot more) salted egg yolks (meant to represent the moon). I created these with teochew style filling a couple of days ago, it taste very good even even though the yam filling is not sweet adequate, the ghee did gave a buttery flavor to the mooncake.
